Eat the Document

With Charred Hearts having pulled out Eat the Document were a late addition to the bill, and unfortunately due to their early stage time there were only a handful of people to witness their bass driven sound.  Lyrics very much in the “stick it to the man” vain Eat the Document provided an energetic set that pulled all the punches, and set a high standard for any night of good ole punk rock.

Avondale 45

With a less polished sound than the openers Avondale 45 got the proceedings really going as the crowd started to fill out fairly quickly, with a strong stage presence and a set including tracks about Leigh Park (for those further afield, this is a housing estate on the outskirts of Pompey) this was a band the crowd could get into and you could see the evening was planning out for a great night.

Night of Treason

Having been on the scene for some time now Night of Treason have built up a solid local following, and you can see why.  Always spot on in the live environment tonight was no exception, lead vocalist Pinky’s solid delivery on songs such as “Letters from the Front” and “My Town” that would stand out in any punk compilation I need to purchase their CD somewhere soon.

999

When you see a band that have been doing this since 1977 down your local pub you know you’re in for a treat, 34 years on and only the bass player having changed (although Arturo Bassick has made a name for himself having played in the Lurkers for the same period of time) 999 deliver everything you would want from a punk gig.

It was obvious which songs were going to be the stand out tunes of the night, but “Emergency”, “Biggest Price in Sport” and sing along tune “Homicide” didn’t disappoint.  The set was played with energy and enthusiasm, the obligatory encore containing a second rendition of “Homicide” with both fans and band alike on stage this provided a slightly chaotic version of the song, which actually made it a great end to the set.
