THERAPY? – “TIDES EP”

As Therapy? are about to embark on their next UK tour, celebrating twenty years since the drug infused “Infernal Love” album whereby they will be playing it in full, there’s still time for a third single from last years “Disquiet” release with “Tides” being given special treatment.

It won’t be available for download until April, but for those of you attending one of the upcoming shows the limited edition CD version will be available and it has that old style single feel to it – the lead track taken from the album along with another that could easily have been included, a track that sounds a bit of a rough demo which will still appeal to the completest and a bonus remix.

TIDES

For those of you not familiar with “Disquiet” it was very much lead singer/guitarist Andy Cairns intentions to make the album in line with the classic “Troublegum” release from 1992 and “Tides” is exactly that, there’s that classic Therapy? punk/metal sound but at the same time producer Tom Dalgety (Band of Skulls, Turbowolf, Royal Blood) has successfully given the band a slightly cleaner sound to that of their early days.

SMILE OR DIE

In contrast to the above, “Smile or Die” is a bit more rough around the edges with a garage rock feel about it, chugging along in a similar vein to the Stooges (think of “I Wanna be your Dog“), the raw demo approach makes for a bigger impact, although I can see how it would have been a bit of an album filler had it been previously included.

SLIPPIES

Now this is more in keeping with where Therapy? are currently at and is a tune up there with the best of them, combining a nice guitar hook with the simplistic rhyming that will have fans instantly singing along and as you picture the cheeky grin of bass player Michael McKeegan “Slippies” is certainly one to remember.

INSECURITY (PITCHPHASE REMIX)

Another track from “Disquiet” sees “Insecurity” given the remix treatment by electronic artist Pitchphase, so put down your air guitars and pick up your glow sticks as it’s transformed into a dance tune rather than a dirty industrial track and with the band in good spirits why shouldn’t it be an uplifting take on an album that has Therapy? back on top form.
