The B OF THE BANG – “TREMORS AND NOSEBLEEDS: MELODIES OF A MALADY”

Having seen B of the Bang live a number of times in recent years it was surprisingly only a few weeks ago that I finally purchased the debut release “Beginning Middle End“, so it was a pleasant bonus to hear a second album was already recorded and in the pipeline when the first had barely left the comforts of my stereo.

There have been many a band that have come up against that age old difficult second album scenario, whereby you want to re-create the sound that made the first so special yet keep it fresh and exciting for the follow up, and with “Tremors and Nosebleeds” the B of the Bang have managed to succeed on both accounts.

At times the vocals come across slightly darker than that of their 2009 debut, although it’s touches like these that keep your ears listening from the indie/folk opener “Aim High” through to the piano led closing track “This will be Gone Tomorrow” – the latter a personal favourite.

Then there’s the hypnotic bass and repetitive harmonies on “The Forest (The Devil is in the Dust)” which help recreate the live feel of the band where you will find yourself happily singing along without realising, whilst the guitar work on “Bring you Back” adds to the more rocky side of the Bang making this a musical masterpiece.

“Tremors and Nosebleeds: The Melodies of a Malady” officially comes out on vinyl and download Monday 22nd April via Southsea’s very own Pie and Vinyl Records (the brainchild of everyone’s favourite record-come-pie shop), but if you can’t wait that long then pick it up a day earlier at the launch show, where you can see these guys live at the Wedgewood Rooms in all their glory – it’s a five o’clock start though so be sure to fill yourself up with pie and mash before heading off.
