TANGO PIRATES – MILTON ARMS BARN 17th November 2012

Black Bullets

First band on tonight, Black Bullets, took to the stage certainly looking and acting the part of the rock stars.  With their frontman doing his best to get the crowd going and with an energetic performance you could be easily mistaken if you thought you’d arrived just in time for the headliners.

Although a set of mainly their own tunes one of the highlights came in the form of the Motorhead classic “Killed by Death” – a version that they make their own… this was also followed by another cover, “Are You Ready” by Thin Lizzy (which was also performed by the aforementioned Motorhead only a couple of days earlier).

The De Rellas

Despite a sparse crowd in the middle part of the evening, the De Rella’s filled the room with stage presence, if not people, and a loud slice of punk orientated rock n roll.

Awesome opening riff on tracks such as “Looking for you” and the sing along chorus of “Yeah Yeah Yeah” and “She’s a Pistol” gave them a great classic sound – check out bass player Robbie Tart in some of his previous bands too such as Heartbreak Angels and the legendary Vibrators.

Tango Pirates

When you delve into the members of Tango Pirates you discover the reason they’re so natural at what they do is largely due to their backgrounds – guitarist Dave Tregunna having played with the likes of Sham 69 on and off over the years, and lead guitarist Timo Kaltio has been involved in both Hanoi Rocks and the Johnny Thunders band.

With a tight rhythm section on tracks such as “Deed is Done” and “Ghost” plus frontman Danny Fury adding an almost Alice Cooper like vocal over the top of the sleazy 80’s sound, the overall result is very much in keeping of the individual members’ previous heritage.

On the back of a recent tour of Finland Tango Pirates provide the perfect end to a night of rock n roll – it’s a shame there weren’t more people in the crowd to appreciate it but a great atmosphere none the less and a venue that will continue to thrive on more live music in the near future.

Cheers
Mr Teeth
