LUCKY ONES DIE FIRST, PINTS, GNARKS, BLACK ANCHOR – SOUTHSEA SOCIAL CLUB, 2nd February 2014

With the recent launch of their label it was over to FXD Records to put on their second night in as many weeks at the Southsea Social Club, this time moving to the more unsocial Sunday evening, but the end of the weekend didn’t mean the end of the party… in fact far from it:

BLACK ANCHOR

Having played the New Cross Punkfest all-dayer the previous weekend headlined by the legendry 999, Black Anchor were back on home soil for this evening and their blend of heavy rock off-set alongside the punky songs appeal to both the hardcore fans and punks alike making for a great opening act for many a night.

GNARKS

Essex based Gnarks had made their first trip to Portsmouth and as always it’s good to experience a band from out of town, who soon enough insisted on the crowd moving forward to which the audience obliged and it seemed as though Gnarks were part of the furniture with more tune based songs compared to some of those within the punk/hardcore scene.

PINTS

Within the first song of Pints set there was shattered glass and beer spilt, along with one of their entourage being thrown out, which pretty much summed up the attitude of their “Get Drunk or Try Dying” co-headlining weekender with Lucky Ones Die First.

Their frontman seemed to spill as much cider as he managed to drink whilst coming across as somewhat proud to have apparently been banned from the previous nights’ venue – however despite the rather un-necessary behaviour Pints were actually pretty damn good!

Blasting through tracks from their “Drinking.  Smoking.  Gambling” demo, Pints songs were fairly short and to the point… although needless to say the main lyrical agenda seemed to be songs about drinking rather than gambling with choruses such as “No-one drinks Lager Like me” being annoyingly easy to sing along to.

LUCKY ONES DIE FIRST

Once the floor had been wiped clean and following a relaxed turnaround time it was over to local lads Lucky Ones Die First to bring the night to a close, LODF have been around for a few years now and their “Live Learn Crash Burn” album has been a favourite amongst the locals.

As with Pints before them LODF like to be up close and personal and as the crowd once again stepped closer the three piece were joined ended the night on a high, so no matter how disorderly some of the evening may have been it was another successful outing and we look forward to seeing what further delights FXD have on the cards in the not too distant future.
